Starting a Blog on Leadership While on Sabbatical Leave

Greetings,

We’re off shortly to Hong Kong for the Fall and the start of my sabbatical leave. Let me wish you an exciting and healthy remainder of this year!

If you are interested, I’m going to do a weekly (or so) blog on leadership during my teaching and travels. You can find it at http://www.posneronleadership.blogspot.com/

This email constitutes the first entry and it includes a broad outline of our itinerary.

You can sign up as a "follower" on the blogspot site if you wish to be notified each time an additional posting is made. Otherwise you can check it out yourself periodically (or not at all!).

If you are in our area, stop by. If you have any people or experiences to share about any of these destinations, we’d be appreciative both to hear from you and for any introductions. I can always use a guest speaker in my classes!

Take care,

Barry

2009-2010 Sabbatical Leave

September 1 - December 21, 2009 – Hong Kong
Visiting Professor, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (Kowloon). We’ll be living on campus and I’m set to teach three MBA classes, with different audiences, on leadership. Side trips are currently planned for Guilin, South Vietnam, and Cambodia.

December 21 - January 27 – California
We’ll be back home during this period; catching up and visiting with family and friends.

January 28 - March 7, 2010 – Australia
Looks like I’ll be offering several leadership workshops across Australia, under the auspices of the Australian Institute of Management. We’ll be "hanging out" with friends in Perth (site of my last sabbatical leave in 1992 at the University of Western Australia). Will probably make it to the Margaret River (WA), along with Melbourne and Hobart.

March 8 - March 13, 2010 - North Vietnam
We already spent some time in the south, so this will be a chance to visit the northern and central regions of Vietnam, and complete our understanding of the emerging nation.

March 14 - March 25 – Cape Town (South Africa)
Tentatively planning on some interactions with Stanford’s study abroad program and other local universities involved in leadership and community development.

March 25 - May 20 – Istanbul
Will be a Visiting Professor at Sabanci University, where we will again take up residence on campus. I will teach a MBA seminar on leadership and do one or two executive education workshops.

May 20 - June 22 – Europe
Will spend a few days in Budapest before traveling to Rome and spending time in the northern regions of Italy, and hopefully connecting up with some of the graduates of our most recent Fulbright exchange program on entrepreneurship, but no set itinerary or agenda at this time. Perhaps a cooking class? Tentatively planning to spend the last several days on a theater tour in London before returning back to the United States.
